Welcome to my first ever blog. My name is Jen and I am currently a BA Conservation student in London.
The photos were taken a few days ago in Elephant Castle at the Cumin Museum, a small but insightful museum, which is one of the original collections housed in Britain.
Completely different to the British Museum in scale and assortment of objects, it is part of a community often overlooked in South East London, but means alot to the people and children living there.
The Cuming museum houses the objects Richard Cuming and his son Henry Syer Cuming accumulated over a period of 100 years.
I love this museum particularly because it has a feeling of old worldy; an atmosphere of a father and son who were passionate about ethnography and intriguing objects from exotic locations, as well as the history of Southwark They themselves never travelled and were often called 'armchair travellers'.
The Leverian Catalogue belonging to Richard Cuming. It was featured in a sixty-five-day auction in 1806 in London.
Hope you enjoyed! Now I'm off to write an essay it!
